I found certain subjects, particularly math, quite challenging in my early academic years.

My struggle with the subject began in middle school and persisted through high school.

Understanding the math lessons in class was a constant challenge, often compounded by peers who seemed to grasp the material better. Getting attention from the teacher amidst my classmates was tough—I often felt invisible at my desk. Even though I attended extra study sessions and sought help whenever possible, I never received the individualized support I needed.

Reflecting on those struggles, I now realize it wasn't that I was incapable in math; rather, I lacked the necessary assistance. I spent so much time believing I wasn't smart enough or didn't try hard enough simply because I didn't have access to the right resources, like a great tutoring platform such as teacher-assistant.

As math grew more daunting, the available resources didn't provide the substantial help I needed. But with a tutor offering a different perspective and patient guidance, I believe I could have found a better-suited method of learning mathematics that aligned with my thinking.

At teacher-assistant, we're committed to breaking down systemic barriers, ensuring millions of students nationwide access academic support. We take immense pride in this work because we've been students ourselves—every tutor at teacher-assistant has.

Each student faces unique challenges, from language barriers to the limitations imposed by COVID-19 or struggles to concentrate in class. We understand the frustration, stress, and confusion these obstacles bring.

In my role as a humanities and Review Center tutor, I approach sessions from a student's standpoint. When a student grapples with a problem, I ask myself:

What would be most helpful for me if I were in their shoes? How can I adapt my approach? What's an alternate explanation? What could better illustrate this concept? At teacher-assistant, we're encouraged to utilize our diverse backgrounds, skills, and knowledge to provide personalized and supportive tutoring sessions. My background spans a range—I pursued a fine arts bachelor's and am now a Ph.D. candidate in applied social and cultural psychology.

This multidisciplinary foundation enables me to connect with students across subjects and tackle challenges using unconventional methods. I draw from my experiences to encourage students to think creatively in their learning journeys.

Like my peers at teacher-assistant, I aim to inspire confidence in my students, equip them with skills for success, and instill a belief in their abilities within the classroom.
